Almost one year ago you held your baby in your arms for the first time... can you believe how fast that went? Now it's time to celebrate their first birthday! There's no better way to celebrate this amazing moment than with a cake smash photoshoot.

A smiling toddler in a blue outfit sits with a cake, surrounded by blue and white balloons. A sign reads "One." Bright, joyful setting.

What type of photoshoot are you considering for your child? Are you leaning towards a themed session, or do you prefer a classic approach to keep the spotlight on the birthday star? Both options are tons of fun and result in wonderful images to cherish, but classic cake smash setups remain timeless. What exactly do I mean by "classic"?

As a photographer I define classic sessions as photoshoots with solid-colored backdrops and minimal props. For cake smash sessions this translates into a white backdrop with a balloon garland (in the color of your choosing) and a ONE sign, that's it!

By keeping the background clutter free you ensure that your soon-to-be one year old is the absolute star of the show. Their sweet expressions and cake covered hands and cheeks will be front and center, while the clean background will give you images that stay in style regardless of what's popular now or in the future!

No matter what type of cake smash you choose, themed or classic, looking back at your pictures years from now, you'll be glad you made the investment!
