Your little one is about to turn one! Now that you've booked a cake smash photoshoot to celebrate, here are a few quick things to do before your session.

Pink and white cake smash session

  1. Let Your Baby Try Cake

A few days before your session, try giving your baby either a small piece of cake or their own cupcake. This not only lets them explore different tastes and textures, but it also helps re-confirm that they do not have allergies to typical cake ingredients before their photoshoot!

  1. Plan Your Outfits

Cake Smash sessions can get messy (as they should)! Once you have discussed your babies' outfit with your photographer, you should plan out your outfit. Wear something simple that you don't mind getting dirty- because your child will probably get some cake on you when it's time to clean up!

If you have added on family portraits to your session you should wear the outfit you would like to be photographed in, then bring a change of clothes.

  1. Pack Your Bag

Every photographer will be slightly different, but this is what I recommend bringing with you to your child's cake smash session:

Diapers, extra wipes for cleanup, a bottle or sippy cup, a small toy from home, and some of their favorite snacks (puffs work well!). The small toy should be kept hidden and only brought out during the session if we need a little help getting your child's attention. The puffs (or other small snack item) can be incredibly useful if the baby is not interested in the cake- we can place some on top of the cake or right behind it to help comfort your child.
